Strange GPA?

Hello!

In the topic <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/1689151-help-an-italian-eng-to-find-university.html#latest">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/1689151-help-an-italian-eng-to-find-university.html#latest</a>
I've calculated my GPA on a 4.0 scale: the average of my grade is something like 5.1-5.2/6.0 ~ 0.86 which in a 4.0 scale should be around 3.4-3.5/4.0; but actually I've read of people aaplying for master whose undergrad GPA was greater than 4.0, let's say 4.1 or 4.2. How can it be possible? Did I make mistakes in the calculus of my GPA? :-/

Is another scale used for graduate degree?

Thank you!

TAM :-h

Different universities use different scales for GPA. Most in the US use a scale of 4.0, however there are others that use a 5.0 scale. When you do report your scores, you will be reporting your exact ones from your school, be it a GPA based system or percentage based system. The calculation you are doing should strictly be for your own purposes to understand what schools to apply for and where your chances are higher.
