Before I start I want to give a little background on myself. I am not from the U.S, My high school marks were terrible, but i did manage to graduate. I’ve been out of High school for 6 years. No post secondary experience. Odd jobs from time to time. Spend a two years or so volunteering and helping with my grand fathers homemade clinic (he wasn’t a licensed doctor) in the DRC before he passed away.
Is my target of applying here out of my reach? What makes a strong candidate? Is it hard to get in? I know for a fact that my studying habits are not what they used to be. I understand I would have to write my SAT. I just need some info before I call them directly.
Please help.
Thank you for your time!
Hi! I’m not affiliated with GS in any way but I’ve been reading the posts here. Also I’ve known people who’ve graduated from GS. For what it’s worth, in my opinion you will need to show that you can do CU-level work. Your background is really interesting from the perspective of this admissions committee–especially if DRC means DR Congo as I think it does. That kind of life experience would be welcome, I should think. You will need to do well on ACTs or SATs. The SAT test is changing soon and you may want to take the ACT instead. Many find the ACT less “tricky”. (The SAT was known for putting in tricks to the test that many began to see as unfair). Also, you may want to take a class or two at a local college (in the US it’s usually “community college”) to show that you are capable of college-level work. You would need to get A’s. Finally you should be aware that GS doesn’t have financial aid to the same degree as CU college. You would need to be ready to pay for this school in some way.
