Hi so I was accepted to JMU and have made my deposit. I loved it when I visited and people seem to love it there but I've heard some things that are making me anxious. I've heard some people say that there is a diverse set of personalities since it's a bigger school and you'll meet a lot of down to earth genuine people but I've also heard some people say a lot of the people there are narrow minded and snobby. I know that I'll meet bad people and good people but as long as the majority isn't bad then it's fine. I just want some people to help me feel better about the student body because I love this school and I don't want to be anxious over anything.

I am a current junior at JMU and have always felt welcome by people here. Of course there are instances where people aren’t as open minded as you would like them to be or someone makes a snarky comment about something. But overall, people are genuinely nice. You will find your core group of friends - people in your dorm, classes, people you may work with - and have positive interactions with them. The majority of people are definitely not “bad people.”

Other advice I can give you is to join organizations that you are interested it - whether it be academic groups, greek life, community service organizations- if you have an interest, there is a club that corresponds with it. I have met some of my best friends by joining organizations so this is a definite way to meet people that have a similar outlook and interests as you!

Let me know if you have any other questions!
