Student culture at Princeton

Very curious to learn more about student culture at Princeton.. thanks!

‘Student culture’ as in extracurricular offerings, campus vibe or something else?

Momsters: extracurricular offering i can probably find on the site - its more the “vibe”, or how is life outside the classes…

‘Student culture’ is not easy to summarize. You will probably get more useful feedback if you can share your son’s personality, his interests, his and your concerns, etc.

My son (freshman BSE and athlete) says he has met some of the most amazing people ever since being at Princeton. The academic atmosphere is collaborative - people are very willing to help each other, to study together and to problem solve together. Free academic support and even private tutoring are available.

There is a fair amount of partying on “the Street” but there are also lots of things to do with friends away from the party scene. Meal times are very social and fun. Sports events are a blast. There are multiple opportunities to travel to New York city with an organized group that the residential colleges put together, for very, very low cost. There are artistic events performed on campus, and a very wide variety of interest groups to be involved in. Look up Outdoor Action and Community Action for an idea of opportunities for freshmen to get to know others before classes start.

It’s definitely not perfect (no school is) but it’s a wonderful place to be for my son.

aparentoftwo: it not easy to summarize culture, you are right. My son has a bit of everything, not easy to define him. Never stops to surprise me. However, since we will be living in another country (he is international) I would like to make sure he will have the support where and whenever he needs it. Academic guidance, friends etc. No different than any other parent after all, I guess.
Cantiger, thanks. I didn’t know all of this. It is very helpful.
