Honestly I want to major in Communication & Media. Unfortunately, Hamilton only offers Cinema/Media Studies major and Communications minor. so is it possible for me to self-study my major: Communication & Media?
Please help if have any info, especially if you are studying at Hamilton College
Making your own major at Hamilton is really easy, especially if you just want to combine two different majors (communication with media studies). All you have to do when you declare your major (which is the second semester of your sophomore year), you just sign a sheet saying which two majors you want to combine. Then you, with an advisor you choose (preferably a professor you think will be helpful for your self made major; luckily for you, the professors in the communications department are great!), and you outline the classes you are thinking of taking. Just this year, a student at Hamilton will graduate with a BA in Psycholinguistics. He combined the courses for psychology and linguistics to make a unique major that will be most beneficial to him in the future.
@hamcollstudent cool! its great to know that. but it means I can combine a major (media) & a minor (communications)? though it sounds quite crazy but is it possible for me to major in economics and communications & media at the same time? sorry for being too ambitious …
Self-designing a major will take interest and planning, but as stated above, this should be a goal you can reasonably expect to accomplish. With this set, adding a second, conventional, major such as economics should then be no more complicated then if you were to have chosen two conventional majors.
