student life at CCPA

I heard that Acting students wake up at 8 am and get back to the dorm at 11 pm? Is it true? Do Acting students at CCPA take 8 courses during freshmen year? IF they are taking so many courses, do they really get time to work on their assignments or tests? Are theatre students that busssyyyy? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!!!

@Jkellynh17 and @remartin67 May have info

^^^don’t know about CCPA specifically but yes, theatre students ARE generally that busy. I have one MT and one Acting student. They don’t get back EVERY night at 11 but many nights. Then they start homework.

Mine is often in the theatre till after midnight…and she is getting a BA. I think these kids thrive in this environment.

Hi, yes, you’ll be busy at CCPA. That said, my kid was able to keep up with his homework, go to all his classes, do 10-12 hours of work/study, do his required tech, make some student films, work out and go out with his friends at CCPA. Towards the end he was working a couple of shifts at a restaurant every week, too, mostly on weekends. You just have to get organized and use the odds and ends of time you get between classes etc.

He would sleep for a couple of days straight whenever he came home though.

@Yuhu459 - When they are rehearsing for a show, it’s true they don’t get home until 11 pm. That being said, they are only in 2 shows freshman year. The rest of the year they are working on tech, which may include some evening or weekend hours, depending what they are doing. And they don’t have class at 8 am every day–only 1 or 2 days a week. My S has a couple really light days, where he only has 1 or 2 classes. And CCPA is a conservatory, not liberal arts. So there isn’t the intense studying for tests the way other students do. It’s more writing papers, reading plays, getting together with a scene partner to rehearse a scene, etc. I believe the only Core class my S has this year is English Composition.
