Student Life at Hillsdale

I'm a senior in high school, applying RD for the class of 2018. Academically, Hillsdale seems like a dream for me; I admire the liberal arts focus and general intellectualism that I've seen so far. The politics certainly don't hurt, either - I consider myself a right-leaning libertarian, and though I'm open to all ideas, it's nice to see a school that isn't completely hostile towards my own. :)

However, I am concerned with the social aspects of my hypothetical life at Hillsdale. The size of the town concerns me - I'm fine with attending a small college, but I still enjoy going out on the weekends (parties, yes, but also to concerts and restaurants - "city stuff," if I may), and I'm afraid that I may find myself wishing that I was in that sort of city environment. I'm a social person, and in short, I'm not quite sure how well I'll fit in. Can any students or parents shed some light?

--

I should add that I have not visited, although I plan to. I'm half-blind here, so please don't think I'm too ignorant. <3

You won’t find too many concerts in Hillsdale itself, but Kalamazoo, Detroit, and Grand Rapids are all common stops on the big tours that bands do, especially Detroit. There are a lot of really good restaurants and bars that college students hang out at and a lot of the local places have special college student deals because of how small the town is. Also, there are a ton of different off-campus places that have frequent parties. You can pretty much find a party every weekend if you’re looking for one. There are about a million different campus events too. This is definitely a social campus, so there is always a lot of stuff going on.

Dunno if this helps, but there ya go. I’m a sophomore there now so I have a pretty good idea what’s going on.
