I'm currently a freshman at a university in Washington state. Seeing as I'm not the happiest here, I've been considering transferring. I've mainly been looking at schools on the east coast and have asked around. The University of Chicago came up a few times so I decided to check it out. Upon looking over the school's website, I've become more and more interested in applying there.

However, I want to hear straight from the source what student life is like at the University of Chicago. I've heard that it can get pretty intense academically, but I want to hear more.

What is the overall atmosphere like?
What is housing like?
What is the food like?
How is campus safety?
What is Chicago like as a city? What does the city of Chicago offer basically.
Climate?
Extracurricular activities?
Clubs?
Fitness?
Student life in general?

As a born and bred Seattleite, how much of a culture shock would there be if I were to transfer to Chicago?
