I have a humble amount of student loans. They are all either Subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford loans. The "thing" is that they are from a total of three different student loan companies. Does anyone know of any legit student loan consolidation companies?

They are all legitimate. We taxpayers would be very upset to guarantee loans and to fund the various loan programs out there, if the staffords loans were not from legitimate companies. I am particuliarly upset that with all the advertisements last year, prior to Aug 1, 2006, that you did not take the advantage of saving yourself thousands of dollars in interest and years in your payments.

Did you not get an exit interview/class for student loans from your school or lender when you graduated or when you entered school. It is mandated by your Government that such classes be held-You also must have acknowledge that you understood the terms and conditions of the loans.

Any of your three current Stafford holders can do the consolidation, or you can do it through Sally Mae and her sister.

I was still enrolled at University last year. I am not attending University this current Spring semester and I was thinking of just going ahead and consolidating the loans I do have and make payments towards them now. If I time things right with paying them off, I will not have any outstanding student loan debt come graduate school time and that would be nice, because I do not know if I will be moving out of state or to England for graduate school or not, you know, as of right now.

And no, I have not been asked to do a exit interview yet, because I am returning to University in the summer.

My student loans are all from reputable companies and I do not have a rather large amount in student loans, I was just inquiring if anyone knew of a legit consolidation company- because all three of my student loans are from different companies.

Edited to add...The reason why I am not attending University this current spring semester is because the head of the honors department said I could do indy studies towards the completion of my thesis now. So, I am corresponding with my thesis advisor through e mail and one meeting every other week. It is a nerdy thing. But, I just wanted to clear it up right quick.

Your current lenders can do the consolidation. The differences between them will be minor. The most popular seems to be the ones that give a small discount if you make payments automatically and another discount after 3-4 years of ontime payments. Most students apparently do not setup automatic payments and when they do so they typically do so only after they missed the first payments after school and thereby loose on the discounts.

The consolidation form is very similiar to the Stafford form with nearly the same wordings.

I would look at the differences. There may be a dramatic change in the programs within the next few weeks- The Democratic Party controlled Congress has proposed a change in college financing-What it will be is unknown.

Pay attention to the economic winds. Being aware of such things, will save you and earn you more money than any knowedge that you gain in college.
