Hello all. First post here. Long time lurker.

I just want to start out with College is a lot different than I was expecting. My first 2 semesters were crap. But I came back with a 2.5 my 3rd semester and on track for 3.5 this semester.

I have Florida Pre paid which is 2 years comm and 2 years university. Problem is I used most by wasting 24 credits my first semester. I don't want to use my uni credits at a community college so I'm saving them. What I'm asking is should I take out loans? I get full pell which leaves me $1300 after classes paid. I did the math already in advance. That isn't much to live on and I am considering moving out. Parents are main problem for the horrible semesters. Even though I am still responsible for all my actions.

So all in all, should I take full loans for the rest of my community college education? About 3 semesters?

If there’s a way to avoid the loans, do it. Community college isn’t intended to get you into debt. I think you’re smart to leave your university credits for when you’ll need them. I think you should try to get a job and pay anything not covered now. As far as moving out… if you have to support yourself, it will be a major expense and cut into your ability to continue school. You would be best off sleeping at home and spending your life at school/ the library and a part-time job. If this is impossible, is there a relative who could take you in? Oh, and will you end up having to take out more loans for the 4-year college or can you commute?

I won’t need loans when I transfer to the University. I live less than 5 min from the campus also. If I were to move it would still be 5 min away. Rent is also only 200 because I’m moving with a friend to his house. I just am worried about community college at the moment as like I said, I don’t want to use my university credits.

I plan on doing ROTC and commisioning as an Officer so hopefully debt wouldn’t be hard to pay back. I just want to know if theres a way it could hurt me at all.

The military is going to be cutting back, according to all the recent developments/news. You may want to have a plan B in case you find you don’t get ROTC, etc.

ROTC scholarships were never just waiting around for the taking, and they are highly competitive right now.
