Hey what do you guys think about the website Studentsreview.com? I have been going on it, just to get an idea about the culture of various schools. While I think you have to take it with a grain of salt, it is kind of interesting to see what gets said over and over again about a given college. Vanderbilt gets hammered, and I wondered what any current students think about the validity of the comments. I am still, to some extent, considering Vanderbilt because of the location, but I have to say, my visit and those comments are scaring me off.

wow, i just read the comments. they are extremely harsh. i'm kind of curious if any current/former students could deny or confirm this assesment of vanderbilt too.

those who leave comments are generally complaints. just a fact of life.

There is some truth to the negative comments, but those are certainly the most negative things you can say about Vanderbilt. It's all about fit, and you have to visit before you decide to attend.

sure, but also remember than ANYONE can post a comment.

If you frequent message boards devoted to particular medical procedures, guess who posts most frequently? Those who had complications. Those who had successful surgery have moved on with their lives. I think there's some of this same phenomenon on sites like studentsreview. Be careful not to conclude that those with "Vandy-itis" are representative.

I thought that too, that the people who wrote comments would just be the complainers, but look at some other schools, like William and Mary, or Oberlin, (just to pick a range!) and you will see, that is not true. I think it is a concern when there are so many complaints of the same nature.

StudentsReview would be more reliable if they required a school e-mail address to post comments. Alot of the comments sound like stereotypes and not what actual students say about the school. I'm from the North and have made my lifelong friends at Vandy and would definitely recommend the school.

I'm an actual student, and I can see some truth in the comments on studentsreview. I often hear students say things like, "I can't imagine how anyone could not like it here," but I also hear things like the comments on studentsreview.

It's about fit and knowing what you want out of a college experience. I overlooked your comment that you already made a visit in my first post. I found that Vanderbilt was exactly like the impression I got from my short visit, so if your visit is scaring you off, don't attend.

Trima, would you say that the negative aspects of Vandy as stated on Studentsrevies are hardest on boys or on girls?

Well, whether you like Vandy or not always comes down to the individual. Overall though, I think girls are most affected. It's often remarked that the girls here are a lot better looking than the guys, who actually aren't too shabby, so that's competition right there for the insecure. Eating disorders are common here (among girls, of course). But I've found that the social competition doesn't really matter unless you willfully take part in it and let it bother you.
