Studied here since 2nd grade, no green card

Hi everyone,

I have been studying in the United States since the second grade (lived in India before that). However, based on the nature of the visa we are on, I still don’t have a green card… but we are supposed to (knock on wood) get it in June of next year. However, I am applying to colleges soon as I will be a senior in about a week. Do I apply as an international student? What exactly is the process for this? If we get it before I actually start college August 2016, would financial aid packages for my freshman college year change?

Thank you for your time!

Until u have a green card, you’re int’l. There’s a FAFSA deadline for applying for FA.

Consider taking a gap year while u wait for the green card.

You apply as an international student. You could try contacting colleges directly and see if you can work something out when it comes to financial aid. Ask if you could re-apply for financial aid after your freshman year when you get your green card.
