Studied, yet did bad on April SATs

YEeah me too....I spent 2 months at Kaplan studying for the SAT, then another 2 months at Sylvan, and still got a 1940. I'm about to jump off a cliff. Adieu NYU Stern ED. Of course I'm retaking....I'll get a 2100, then it's Adieu safety school, and HELLO NYU STERN ED!!!!

how many did you miss. for example if you get 32 right and 28 wrong if you skip more your score will go up 50-100 just like that

CR:
Raw score=50
Right=52
Wrong=10
Skip=5

Math:
Raw Score=44
Right=46
Wrong=8
Skip=0

Writing:
Raw Score=37
Subscore=61
Essay=11
Right=39
Wrong=8
Skip=1

So I got *****ed over.

the same thing happened to me: i have a 4.0 gpa with all honors and AP classes, my last practice SAT i was over a 2000, and then i suddenly dropped a lot of points. it was a really big shocker. but my ACT score composite went up (thank god). so instead of getting all upset about it now, i am going to focus on finishing my junior year strong by getting good grades and doing well on the AP exams, my final exams, and SAT IIs. i will take the ACTs one more time in september and the SATs in october, and focus on studying for those in the summer.

so for everyone freaking out about their score: remember, you can still take it again. yea, the score doesnt just magically disappear (even though they should...). if colleges see a major improvement from the first score to the second, they will be impressed. so dont jump off a cliff or drown or fall out of a window. you will be fine. focus on finishing the year strong. plus, test scores arent the only thing that colleges look at. they see your GPA, extracurricular activities, community service, essays, etc. if they only looked at your test scores, the application would look like this:

Name:____________
Test Scores: _____________

and the applications would be a whole lot easier to fill out and not as time consuming

Thanks a lot for the help everyone!

The thing I am currently worried about is having time to take the SAT Reasoning Test, SAT II Subject Tests, and the ACT plus Writing Test after this summer during my senior year of high school.

I've received a full analysis of my April SAT Reasoning Test and have seen what I did wrong. On some occasions I did not omit enough questions. On others I basically didn't know the material which on my fault was the lack of studying.

Anyway, I have began studying like crazy for this upcoming June SAT Reasoning Test! ;)

Um...all the people in this room shocked about ppls getting 1500/2400...it is no suprise..in my area...i think the best was 2000s...and better ones were 1700s...i guess is all about location...i du no...and i took it for the first time...landed around 1700ish..been working me butt off since

also...ppls who took practice test and got >2000...and got 1800 "on the real thing"...here is a tip...dont give yourself...one or two more minutes..b/c that can equal to 4 to 6 extra raw points...so..when you are testing in time conditions alone...give yourself 2 or 3 min. less...so if they said 25...give yall self 23...it is just an advise...i am guilty of giving meself few more min too....

and to me...SAT isnt about "know it all"...its about knowing the forms...and we have to "memorize" these forms...(off the wall idea)...

anyhow....good luck to everyone

and 4.0 unweighted gpa?? i presume??

with a 1500 you'll have a hard time getting into most state schools. There was a previous thread around here in which someone with a 1580 got rejected everywhere except for a very small branch college in his state.

I know people who have scored in the low 1200s on the new SAT, and most people at my school are happy with 1500+ scores. I even know of one kid who scored a 100/240 on the PSAT, so don't be too discouraged.

Some schools are extremely stats-oriented in their admissions procedures, and others are not. FA, especially in mid-range schools, depends on the SAT scores, nothing else. Scholarships often depend on them as well.

Still, if you can't get over this SAT score hurdle, you can find other ways. LACs are known to look holistically at candidates and so your GPA and activities may overcome weak SAT scores. As has been pointed out a couple of times already, several really good schools don't require SATs or the ACT. Concentrate on them.

I've just checked out my ACT scores. It was a 25. It seems like the SAT I took a week before the ACT helped me a lot. I did so much better on the Reading and Writing sections, not to mention it was the first time I took the test. The science portion was where I began having trouble.

I'll keep you guys updated once I take and receive results for my June SAT & ACT!

"Where do you think all of the fashion designers, movies, tv shows, and every company in america come from? Thats the stuff that really matters, not some stupid stuff like food."

Omg. JLime, are you for real?

Damn.. I'm in same situation...Have a 4.1 GPA and got a 181 on my PSAT's in October. However, when I took the SAt's in April, i got a 1680 :( Then again, I just took 1 practice test and didn't really prep for it so I guess I could blame it on my laziness...

Am gonna prep over the summer and take it again along with the ACT's. Its really disheartening to know that the SAT's could become a big hurdle for me in the college admisions process. Anyhow, Good Luck

look into taking some SAT prep classes near you.

those usually help.

i got 1900 first try and i'm enrolling into a prep class to ready me for the october SAT in which i hope to get at least 2100.

Hey brian, you going to PR or Kaplan?

Update

Hey everyone, I got my June results today:
Critical Reading 540
Math 660
Writing 570

After barely a month of studying I think that is a great improvement (1200 with just the CR & Math). I still think there is room for improvement, expecially in the Critical Reading section, but I am still happy!

I would like to thank everybody who gave me advice!
