Study Abroad (Germany, France, or Chile)

I just finished my freshman year of college and I really want to study abroad during spring quarter my junior year. I plan on starting taking either German, French, or Spanish (I only have some Spanish background currently) this coming year depending on where I plan on studying abroad. I am planning on majoring in mechanical engineering (interested in cars, mechatronics, but possible biomechanical).

Anyways, I am trying to decide between studying in Berlin, Paris, or Santiago. In Berlin and Paris I will be able to get an engineering related internship (through programs with my college). In Santiago, however, this probably won't be possible (I may be able to get an internship with their Center of Renewable Energy, but it probably won't be engineering and I would probably end up doing more volunteering work (with combating poverty).

Since I am a very outdoorsy person and want to immerse myself in a different culture, going to Chile appeals to me and seems more exciting. However, I'm conflicted because of the more engineering opportunities elsewhere.

Do any of you have any experience in these countries or advice of which one would be the most beneficial? Thanks!

I would want to go to Chile for the same reasons you’ve listed. More culture. More exposure. More fun.

But…you would be turning down an overseas intership. Chile isn’t worth it. You could easily go there for a month in the summer. Go to Berlin. Get your intership.

I would say go for the internship in Paris or Berlin. French I believe would be easier to learn.
