S is a freshman in Engg + ISP. I know that there are study abroad summer programs available for engineering undergrads. Like to know whether any one (engg discipline) had pursued study abroad program during the regular season and if so, is it worth it, in terms of academic breadth and/or otherwise?

My D did study abroad at Edinburgh, and absolutley loved it. The courses she took were in her field, but not the requirments, just electives for fun. She used Edinburgh as her base, and travelled around GB whenever she could. She never made it to London or Paris, becasue she played on a team for the school, so week-ends were pretty booked.

I personally did not pursue a study abroad program during my tenure here, however a few of the classmates I will be graduating with did. One went to Italy, and the other went to Germany. One caveat is that they will not be graduating on time, which is while you will not find many engineering students that study abroad. If your son decided to study chemical engineering, I know we have a new program that sends students over the summer to England, and some the courses the students take there will transfer directly, so you can still graduate on time.

Thank you both; S is leaning towards EE. Additionally, he is constrained by the schedule of ISP as far as study abroad program during the regular season. Summer is a definite possibility.

After reading majman’s post, i guess i should note my D is a ChemE, and though she did take 5 years to graduate, it was becasue of Co-Op, not study abroad. And she did it Fall term, not summer. But it is good to see there is now a summer program too, because youngest son is an ED admit to McCormick, and will start in september. GO CATS!
