Hi,
I have posted this in a couple of forums so I apologize for the redundancy. My D is a Fine Arts major at UMASS Amherst and is considering a study abroad program in Venice for second semester this year. It is at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia. This program is also used by Boston University. I am hoping that some of you might have some feedback on study abroad in Venice and, in particular, this program. She has to make a decision soon and we would love to hear about other's experience but are having difficulty finding anyone who has studied there. Thanks!

EPTR, have you tried calling the Study Abroad Office at BU? Perhaps they could put you in touch with a BU professor who’s familiar with the program. I am assuming you have already tried talking to someone in the Study Abroad Office or in the Italian Studies at UMass Amherst. If UMass offers the program, someone should know something about it. My daughter is at Smith and they have a fabulous Italian Studies department. Who knows? Perhaps someone in that department at Smith might know something about it. It’s worth a call as well.

As for Venice, it’s an exquisitely beautiful city. But then so is Florence. Since your daughter’s a Fine Arts major, is there a reason why she wouldn’t consider Florence with all its art history?

Good luck in getting some answers.

Thank you, Carolyn B. It was funny when I read your post because my daughter and I had just come up with the same idea. She is going to try to contact BU tomorrow. She did debate the merits of Florence and Venice but decided on Venice last year. To be honest I can’t even remember what the pros and cons were. The office at UMASS has been able to give her some information but there haven’t been very many students that have taken advantage of the Venice Study Abroad lately so there isn’t anyone for her to ask questions of. Thanks for your help!

If this is a BU sponsored Study Abroad, you will find that it is very well run and very well organized. The BU study abroad programs are quite extensive in scope and have been around for a long time. They have a well oiled study abroad machine. DS did a study abroad while a junior at BU. It went without a hitch. Of course, he was a BU student AND he was also in London where they own classroom and dorm buildings. BUT still…the organization was terrific.

Thank you, Thumper1. That is reassuring.
