Study abroad

Has anyone completed a study abroad trip to the London School of Economics? It doesn’t appear as though Temple coordinates one directly with LSE, yet I was wondering if this could be done and how I would go about pursuing it.

I would contact the Study Abroad department directly.

My son sent an e-mail and they are checking into the specifics but he hasn’t heard anything more yet. He is getting anxious and trying to figure out where to attend. This will play into it a bit. He is going to Temple on Monday so we might get more info then.

You might have better luck calling them rather than waiting for an email reply.

and if you are there monday, def visit the study abroad dept to get more info, i think they are in Tuttleman hall

Can anyone speak to their experience with Temple’s study abroad program in general? Where did you go? How much of your costs did $4000 stipend cover? How helpful were the program staff?

Thanks in advance

@ohiovalley16 - This information will need to be verified by the Honors department but my understanding is that the $4K stipend provided by scholarships cannot be used for study abroad, only for summer “projects.” I believe Study Abroad programs cost roughly the same amount as a regular Temple semester would for your student.

You can use summer stipends to study abroad for either the summer or a semester, although I don’t have any personal experience with it.

@tustudent236 - thank you! My D knew this but I didn’t - very helpful. Things have changed a bit since last year.

Hello! If Temple doesn’t directly work with a program you can contract it.You need to get permission and find out what courses transfer but it’s definitely possible. But checking with the study abroad office would be good also.

I went to Temple Rome over the summer. I know some people who are going in the fall. The stipend now works for both. It’s great to go during the year because your tuition scholarship works then but that was not possible for me. Because I had to pay out-of-state, part-time, Fox tuition I used the entire $4k towards classes but that may not be the case for you.

@LenaliK - Do you know if any engineering classes are offered at Temple Rome? If not, is there a listing online of the courses offered at Temple Rome? My D is going in as an engineering major and is hoping to be able to take a full semester abroad and not just a summer.

There’s a list here. I don’t believe any engineering courses are offered, however.

One engineering course shows at that link:

Mechanical Engineering 0844 Bionic Human Spring Do you ever wonder if humans are merging with machines, can worn-out body parts be replaced, or what is the difference between an MRI and an X‐ray?.. read more »

Special offering in Spring 2016 only. This course fulfills the GenEd Science requirement for Temple students.

Don’t know if that counts as credit for ME majors.

That’s a science GenEd and may not be offered any other semester. An engineering major may not even need to take sci geneds, science majors don’t.
