my junior year just started. My schedule is health/personal finance, Pre calc, ENGLISH 3 , (lunch), physics, world affairs, spanish 3 and history. I'm having a hard time balancing all my classes with sports and work, I want to drop world affairs because it's only an elective and exchange it for a study hall but my mom is concerned of what colleges will think of it. My first choice is rutgers and I was wondering if a study hall would lower my chances? Also, I am an A and B student, are they looking for straight A's or are B's okay?

I don’t think it would have any effect on your chances at Rutgers. Just be sure you will have enough credits to graduate.

Hi Ktborowski,

I wouldn’t stress out too much. Although we do look at which high school courses students take, it’s not weighed more heavily than your GPA and SAT score. In the end, what’s important is that you do well in the courses you’ve taken.

I would recommend you take a look a this chart which shows the GPA and SAT scores for the middle 50% of high school students admitted to Rutgers for fall 2014:

Good luck and thanks for choosing Rutgers as your first pick :)
