I haven’t really been studying, I’m in 8th grade but I only study for Algebra sometimes for like 2 hours.
Any tips for studying more? I plan on taking rigorous courses in high school as you can see in my other thread but first I need to learn how to study, how do you? how long? where do you study? how do you not get distracted? when do you study? do you use books like those at barnes and noble ?
Im a senior. It really depends on the class and your preference.
– science and history: I tend to just read through the chapters and notes from class, maybe making an outline to study from.
– foreign language: partner studying is generally a good idea so you can quiz and correct each other without having to make flash cards (which are time consuming).
– English: I read the book then the spark notes or shmoop for details and themes I missed.
–math: do book problems and read examples from the text
If an AP class, you can find real AP exam questions online (and these may be the problems the teacher uses on the test!)
If you have trouble paying attention, study in the library with your phone on silent away from you
Math: I make flashcards for the formulas and theroems and do some extra practice problems on concepts I struggle with.
History: Flashcards of key terms and events.
Science: I search for application-based problems online, make flashcards of key terms
English: sparknotes, flashcards for grammar terms
Foregin Language: flashcards
In short: flashcards are your best friend
When it comes to flashcards, I personally love using Quizlet. Its a website/app that you can use to make flashcards. It has a learn feature that really helps you memorize everything.
I second the quizlet suggestion
In light of your threads worrying about having ruined your GPA, that should tell you something, right?
The OP is an 8th grader, how is he worried about a ruined GPA?
Quizlet and Khan Academy are your best friends. I find that humanities are much easier, but I’m a STEM-oriented person, so flashcards and videos are the best.
Khan Academy has been a lifesaver for Calc BC this year. I wish I’d started using it years ago- it really helps. Practice problems can never hurt too.
Crash Course has been my go-to for history classes. My only studying for AP exams for World and US History was watching every single crash course video on each class. I got a 5 on both exams!
I’ve used review books for AP US, World, and Environmental throughout the school year, and they help a bit. As far as I’m concerned, reading a two page review book summary is a whole lot better than reading a twenty page chapter in a textbook.
For English, I just reread any books covered on tests. I love reading and material tends to juts stick, so unless I really hate a book I always read school-assigned novels twice. It really helps to get the details to stick! It wouldn’t be worth it if you don’t have the time though.
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions or get extra help in school. It’ll save a ton of time and stress later if you go get help now.
