Study: The new SAT is not much better

The Associated Press: Study: The new SAT is not much better

"College admissions officers can even download a student's essay and read it."

Seriously??? I make up so much stuff about myself in SAT essays for examples. so if college admissions officers read it, i'm screwed.

Wow. .62 correlation with the Writing section, .61 without.

That's absolutely ridiculous. And a $15 increase next year?!? College Board is such an evil corporation.

Thank God for SAT-Optional schools...

However, grades+SAT do remain a better indicator (0.62 correlation) than either one taken separately (grades: 0.54, SAT: 0.53).

I think what I find most disturbing is not the above but the 50% increase in the cost of the test for 2008-09 (from $30 to $45).

The SAT now runs three hours, 45 minutes — or 45 minutes longer than the old version — and will cost $45 in 2008-09, up from $29.50, though aid is available.

This quote from the AP article is deeply misleading. By not mentioning when the test cost $29.50 they are implying a $15.50 increase in one year. However, in 07-08 the SAT reasoning test cost $43. You would have to go back 4 or 5 years to find the $29.50 cost.

StAndrews.. as in the school in Delaware?

no, as in the church I attend
