Studyin Vocab out of Official SAT Book

Hi, I'm helping an English as Second Language (ESL) student prepare for the SAT. As he is in ESL, he does not have much vocab memorized to begin with.

In midst of all the vocab lists available out there, I'm choosing to make him study words straight out of the Sentence Completion section of the SAT from CollegeBoard's Official Study Guide.

Is this ok? Do you know if the Collegeboard tend to AVOID using words that were once used in the past exams?

I don’t think that collegeboard tends to avoid words used in past exams; in the barron’s book there is a 800 list high-frequency sat vocab word list that i would consider looking at. it was really useful when i was taking the sats.

Actually, the same words do come up again and again (there was one on the PSAT this year that showed up on the SAT a month or two later). So there’s nothing wrong with your approach in that regard. BUT, the universe of possible words on the test is a LOT larger than what’s in the blue book, so you’ll need to get your student started with some other vocabulary resources.
