I'm a Junior in High School, and have started looking at colleges and majors I would like to study. I'm lucky to have traveled a lot, and since I was little I've been interested in Humanitarian Aid and human rights. I've been in MUN for 4 years now, and I've done service projects in Thailand, Isreal, Romania, Puerto Rico and I just came back from 2 months in Burundi, which really made me realize that helping people and traveling is what I'm really looking to study.
From the research I've done, it seems the best majors to have in order to work in that field are anthropology, Gender studies, Sociology or Multicultural studies. I've also heard that some universities have programs known for non-profit work.
I have no idea where to start, how to know which college's program is better than the other, what to look for in a college etc..
The only thing I know for sure is that I would really like to study in NY, because I have family and friends there, and I fell in love with the city :)
Can anyone recomend any colleges (preferably in Ny) that might offer these programs/majors?
thank you!

I am curious about the rational for this list. I know very little about humanitarian aid and I am certainly not in a position to give you advice, but I would have expected that a practical major in the health or public policy area would put you in a much better position to provide help.
