Stupid public high schools...

Ok so my high school is driving me crazy..
stupid teachers
pathetic administration
pathetic classes, "AP" classes, "honors"
I'm not prepared at all for any of my AP's. The stupidity of the AP teachers is just so overwhelming. I've been trying to prep for my ap's this spring break...but srsly, its so hard when you havent learned nething the entire year...
and i want 5's..
who else is in a similar situation?
like, it sucks..no one gets into Ivies/top-tier schools from my school..so its exceptionally hard..
what can I do? I just don't have the motivation to continue mindlessly studying for my 6 AP exams this year..

well if you arent smart enough to self study for an ap exam, maybe you shouldnt be in an ap class. maybe it’s not the school that’s stupid it’s you.

I understand your situation. Though to explain my situation it may be more difficult. Though I understand a lot of times how ones grades can be the school playing a part. 3rd marking period I know I didn’t do well to get all A’s, but did well to get mostly A’s. My 3rd marking period states differently, though gladly universities will not see 3rd marking period.

public schools do suck. What’s the pass rates in your AP class? Most of ours are around ~30%. About one person per class of 40 students gets a 5 each year.
My WHAP teacher is horrible! The only essay he has ever mentioned is the DBQ, and he acts like there aren’t 2 other essays on the exam. He should be fired

ap bio teacher- shes like 24 years old and went to a crappy state university. prob doesnt even know what AP stands for. we use crayons to draw pictures and make scrapbooks to “help” us get ready for the AP exam roflmaowthbbqsaucenub!!!

apush- spews random conservative BS and hasnt done ANYTHING TO get me ready for the ap exam/essays

apcomp- looooooooolOL easiest class ever i just talk with friends every day

I don’t think you have to be willing to self study for an AP in order to sign up for an AP class - you’re supposed to be taught the information and I think that is a perfectly reasonable expectation to have.

WHAP scheldule:
First 10 min: mill about outside the classroom talking, waiting for no-good teacher to show up
10-20 min: talk to friends
rest of class: AP teacher pulls out newspaper and cynically laughs at people who died. (“Well, if they’re that stupid, they shouldn’t be alive!”). Points out society’s ills. Makes fun of random kids.
Last minute: assigns us cornell notes on next section.

He has NEVER, ever ONCE lectured. He never gives us worksheets. Half the time I don’t even know we’re supposed to be learning history in class.

AP Bio schedule:
first 10 minutes: ok guise, get started on your cute lil daily questions! I’m coming around to stamp them!!! :]]]]]
next 10 minutes: teacher goes around stamping a daily question that no one did…
next 10 minutes: ok guise, this is an ap-oriented class, so I expect that all of u guise should be reading on ur own without my help. (assigs crap load of pointless busy work and class projects) “ok guise, due tomorrow, have fun!”
student: but ms. newbie, i burned all my crayons cause i thought i didnt need them anymore after signing up for all AP’s andcollege classes this year!!"
teacher: oh, sucks, too bad, have fun kids!

…

You don’t have to rely on teachers in order to learn.

Busy work is a part of life. They’re preparing you for the BS you’ll be doing when you’re an adult.

thats why you hire lesser mortals to do ur busy work (maids, slaves, servants, lawnmowers, etc.) while you are busy at work with what you enjoy

Maybe you guys shouldn’t generalize about all public schools. My school is public and awesome. Almost everyone passes every AP administered, and we have a ton. We used to have the most in the nation, but we got rid of Computer Science A and B and now we’re losing Latin literature and only adding one new one (US Gov.)

Oh no, he wasn’t generalizing about all public schools, he only meant SoCal public schools right? Now those are a kicker. Literally no one passed the APUSH test last year. The highest was a handful or 2’s. The school average for SATs is around 1200.

SoCal public schools = epic phaillllllllllll

^ I have to wholeheartedly agree. All the bad teachers seem to culminate in socal. It must be the good weather

probably on the east coast and new england the public schools are good

No one in my school passes the APUSH exam. Others, like Bio, Chem, Lit, Comp, Calc, and Music Theory are all easily passed.

I wish we even had Music Theory.

Or at least a few classes that were less than 35 people…

Speak for yourself.

IUSD = win.

(IUSD = Irvine Unified School District)

^ that is because you live in OC. Where I live, more than half of the schools in the district are “at risk” or something, because of low test scores.

Yeah I hear IUSD has awesome public schools. Like they’re way better than private schools. I go to a private school in Northern California, and everyone passes AP’s. Even the ones they do Independent Study for.

CA is only rivaled by the South in its quality (or lack thereof) of public schools
