Stupid questions...

It may seem to be a stupid question but...I heard much about the best way to get hired at a company is networking...I am not sure by the way I understand the meaning of the term "networking." Is "partying" counted as "networking" ?

There are lots of parties at Vandy and I do not like partying...and do not intend to join any parties as I think I can not get any meaningful and long-lasting relationships by going to crowded places. But does "not going to party" hurt my chance and opportunity to get jobs? As in a research from Vandy Career Center, lots of students get hired via friends and families.

Btw, I really want to break into investment bank and intend to major in CS or Engineering.

Networking happens at (some) parties, but partying isn’t necessarily networking so not to worry. In terms of professional connections, your ECs at Vandy, research or relationships you have with professors, etc., is the more productive kind of networking. I’m sure a common Greek bond is very helpful initially, if your interviewer or boss happens to be from the same frat/sorority, but that’s not the way most people get jobs, Vandy grads or otherwise.

Yes, if you are not out getting drunk every weekend and trying to get with random girls/guys, you will not have a successful career in the future.
