When my daughter started applying for college, we noticed for all the colleges we applied thus far, they needed us to “self-declare” sat/act score in common app/coalition app and we assumed when accepted, we needed to send them official transcript so in rush we did not bother to send the official score. Yesterday only we realized that UT Austin wanted official SAT/ACT transcript to be sent to them directly from testing agency by Dec 8th. Initially when my daughter told this, there ware lots of confusion but after going thru FAQ, its very clear they needed official version else it wont be considered. Her SAT is 1400 and ACT is 32. is it okay to let it go and application to be considered as without sat/act or should we try to reach out to them and request to consider.
If UT is a school your daughter is seriously interested in, then I would have her reach out to admissions and ask them what to do about the test scores. I know that I’d want an official answer instead of waiting to see how it plays out, but that’s me…
Hopefully this won’t impact her application. I don’t know how they handle it, but I’m sure she is not the only one in this situation. Best of luck to her!
My husband takes pride that he is a great reviewer and he did review of her app and his eyes did not catch this issue. Before UT Austin, she applied U Mich, UNC and UC but I guess all other places we were just to fill up the score in app and they needed official score later only… No one asked to send the official transcript thru testing agency. Now I am going to review again every thing one more time. and yeah… I am worried about other kids who might be in same boat and whose parents might not be able to review all the apps. I wish school counselor should have played bigger role and warned kids about such important differences in application process.
Hopefully you can get an answer from the admissions office soon so you can know… I agree that most of the schools allowed self reporting so UT requiring them is not the norm. We sent scores to the few schools my son applied to even when not necessary so that as money we did not need to spend.
Is your daughter auto admit? Not sure where you are from, but I do hope she finds a great school! (My son applied to the same places, but he will be withdrawing his applications since he got into his ED school.)
She goes to one of the top 10 school and earlier we were proud of that… and now we realized as that school do not do ranking. she is not eligible for auto-admit and as that school had so many APs… getting great grade was not easy…(3.6 … weighted 4.1) even during college app time… they give so much homework… she can not focus on any college apps and seems like when college admission comes … not sure if there is any weightage of she graduating from a top-notch high school… We feel like f$#&ED up in this system. we left with these few days before Jan 1st deadline and we will rush thru as many as college we can submit… and let us see.
and congratulations on getting acceptance for your son.
I feel bad for the stress your whole family is under! This whole process shouldn’t have to be so hard on the kids. Are you in TX? If so, even schools that say they don’t rank are required to rank the top 10% for college admissions. Our son goes to a top public school and it’s crazy how much the kids ranked at the top do!
I hope the application process is over for your daughter soon so she can put this behind her.
