I have noticed that a few colleges my son visited recently say on their websites they will accept the SAT I, 3 SAT II subject tests of your choice, or the ACT. My son scored the lowest on the SAT I Math portion. Would it look bad for him to submit 3 SAT II subjects tests, with none of them being a Math SAT II? He's not a Math kid, but scored very well in the other areas. BTW, he is not planning on majoring in anything Math or Science related.

Poli Sci, Government or History…one of those. I checked the college websites and they do not say anything about one of the subject tests having to be Math1 or Math2. However, 2 out of the 3 schools are test optional anyway.

Has he taken the ACT? The math is structured very differently. He should try it and see if he earns a higher score.

Yes, he took the ACT 3 times and got a 23, 26 and 28. The 28 was after he spent 6 sessions with a tutor, too! On the SAT, which he took twice, he got a 600 and 630. He took the Math2 subject test (also after the tutoring) and got a 610. He took PreCalc and Statistics at school for Math last year, and his grades were fine in both; it appears he is not a good test taker, though, when it comes to Math. His other two SAT components in Critical Reading and Writing are all in the 700’s. Subject test is US History is too.
