Hello! I’m an acting major and it’s around that time where in the coming weeks I’m going to need to start submitting my prescreens. My goal is to get all my prescreens in by October 15th.
However one of my schools (Penn State) asks for prescreens to be submitted by September 30th in order to schedule an audition before winter break. My question is, should I submit the prescreen early? Or should I wait until I’m really confident in my monologues and take my time. I would say my monologues feel solid, but I really just got them on their feet maybe a week or 2 ago. I’m really conflicted, and could use all the advice I can get! Let me know!
Submit when you are comfortable and happy with your prescreens but also keep in mind that you have more flexibility in picking the audition dates/times the earlier you submit. Don’t wait till the last day.
I also highly recommend applying Early Action if you can and there are schools on your list that do that (which means auditioning early) so you could hopefully have an acceptance before year-end, usually mid-Dec. It alleviates the pressure a bit from the March-May waiting and rejections. Break a leg!
@NYDreammom thanks so much! I decided to wait on Penn State. Do you know any other schools that do early auditions/notify early? Please let me know!
@jacobhendrickson The New School has Early Action, it’s the only one I’m aware of, if you are interested in their program. My D was mainly focused on NYC area schools so there could be more out there, I just don’t know.
Marymount Manhattan and Hartt have Early Action. If you audition at their first audition (in November or December), you find out if you got in within a few weeks. Adelphi has rolling admission: after each audition, they notify auditioners within a few weeks.
