Last night we created a CA account for our son to start the application process even though the regular decision deadlines for his top choices aren’t due until Dec 15. There was only a section to list his upcoming senior year classes, and only space for 10 at that. (He’s taking 14 as some are only 1 semester long.)
We listed hub as the guidance councilor. Is he supposed to create his own account as a “school” or will he be automatically sent an email requesting a copy of our son’s transcripts for 9-11th grades?
I just spent 2 grueling months writing up our son’s transcripts, putting everything into educationese, pulling out stacks of books to make sure there was a near-complete book list, and then arranged everything into 4 different ways and lengths in preparation for whatever format would be required. Now I’m at a loss as to how to actually get that transcript into my son’s CA. (I did try searching the forums, but maybe I didn’t use the right search terms.)
Thanks muchly.
Your son needs to invite you/dh as a counselor. I believe once your son fills in his school information and adds at least one college to the list, he should be able to invite you. Make sure it’s as counselor.
Once you are added as his counselor, you will be able to open up your counselor account and submit all the documents that you need including transcripts, school profile, and any other documents you want to upload.
My transcripts for both my graduated sons had about 15 pages of course descriptions attached to them. Also, I had a school profile which included homeschool philosophy, reason for homeschooling, curriculum details and testing details. I also uploaded a list of books that my sons had read.
sbjdorio, thank you so much for the help. The homeschool philosophy and reason for homeschooling guidance councilor letter we still have to write up. It’s in my head; just need to get it down in print and make sure that it doesn’t repeat what my son plans on saying in his main essay.
I finally found the place to invite hub as the councilor (to submit the transcripts) by clicking on one of son’s college choices and then clicking the box by Recommenders and FERPA.
Posting the info here in case I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t figure out where it was either at first.
I feel so bad for the kids who are left to their own devices, even the ones not homeschooled given how few get guidance councilor support at their school and none to little from their parents. (My son has a number of friends in this situation.)
Glad you figured it out!
BTW, it’s counselor (not councilor) just in case you’re going to write the word in your letter.
I always had trouble knowing which way to spell it.
I’m doing the same thing. On the CA there is a place for Homeschool where you describe philosophy, grading system, etc. However, beforehand, as the counselor, how do you answer the questions about: Comparing to other students (I put No Basis), Comparison with rigor of other students coursework. These questions are starred.
Make sure you DO say how rigorous the student’s work is though. That’s an important mark that adcoms will be looking at.
