Substance Free Dorm = Social Suicide?

So I live a substance free life and naturally am interested in the substance free dorm. Seems like a great way to find like minded people aka having fun w/o alcohol etc. but is this social suicide? Is there a pervading( and true ) stereotype of people who live there being reclusive, nerdy, nonsocial, hermits? all thoughts on this are welcomed, thanks

@oops101‌ As an admittee to Duke Class of 2019, I am interested as well. Let’s dorm together, haha!

You’re really overthinking this. Most people don’t know or care who lives in substance-free housing and who doesn’t. Unless they’ve moved it recently, Brown is the substance-free dorm, and it’s right on the main quad next to the freshman dining hall and across from the arts library. You’d actually be more in the swing of things than those living in the dorms further away (e.g. Belltower or GA). As one of the older buildings on east, it has lovely, large rooms with hardwood floors and extraordinarily large walk-in closets. The only real downside is that it’s not air-conditioned, but it’s really not that bad with a fan or two going during the hotter months.

Note that ALL of east campus is dry, regardless of the dorm. That doesn’t mean drinking doesn’t occur there, but it does mean that students who get caught are appropriately punished. West campus is wet, so that’s where most drinking takes place.

its a good thing you don’t use any "substances’…should keep it that way in college

Brown is not the substance free dorm anymore. Jarvis is.
