The thing is...
you CAN sue the teacher
but...
you SHOULDN'T sue just for the heck of it.

Legally, I haven't a clue.

But think of it this way, if you're really feeling offended...

If you weren't taking class online, but were sitting in a classroom, and the teacher caught you multi-tasking (passing a note, doing homework for another class, texting, etc.) then (s)he would likely take action to find out what you were doing and get you to stop (in many cases, (s)he'd punish you, as well). No one would bat an eye.

If you're doing other things during class time, and if it's impacting your work (which it must be if your teacher only searches when you're not participating), then I just don't see the issue.

Like I said...not a legal outlook. Just trying to reframe the issue to show that what your teacher's doing, even if you don't like it, is totally normal.

i just thought of something else.

You said that this occurs during class time right? So doesn't that mean that you have to use the internet and program provided by the school? In which case because you're using their internet they have the right to know what you're doing. Legally.

Well, if you are doing something off task in a regular class, and the teacher spies on what you are doing, is that an invasion of privacy? No.

I hate frivolous lawsuits. I hate the people that win them even worse. What did they do to win millions of dollars? I don't care how traumatized they were. That does not give them the right to get more money than what a third world village would make in an entire generation.

^^ Yeah stupid lawsuits make life difficult.

My dad was in a really bad car accident and the insurance company refused to cover his costs. He sued them and now we're slow to get the money because they have to pay off so many other things. Meanwhile, we only sued for the amount of money for the hospital bills and we're close to filing bankruptcy because of this whole situation.

Sorry, power got turned off today (back on obviously) so I'm a little cranky.

Don't sue your teacher over this, that's just annoying.

romanigypsyeyes, I'm sorry (not just as a formality, but I know how it feels when they cut your light off). I've also had a car accident (nothing too bad), and the insurance is taking months to pay us (idiots!).

Anyways, I really like America (U.S.) except for the retard*d lawsuits that people too oftenly file for stupid stuff (of course, some lawsuits are justified, but like "The 'Danger' sign your company put was 1cm short. I couldn't see it, so gimme money" is just hateful

^^ Mhm, and it makes the real lawsuits harder to pay off.

Get over it, don't go and do other stuff when you're supposed to be working on school.
