Suggested Colleges...no idea where I should be applying

I find that hard to believe about econ majors not getting into business schools, but I never considered business school. How about posting another thread about good undergraduate majors for later admission to an MBA program? I know a lot of parents on CC could give you advice on that.

About classes in HS, what are you taking this year? It sounds like you’ve run out of classes. Can you do an independent study? (Obviously, the school year has started, but maybe you can add something?)

Whatever you are taking, any gaps due to running out of classes or scheduling conflicts can be explained by your GC in his/her letter or in the other information section of the common application.

U South Carolina

Class-wise, I could add an independent study, unfortunately though, sciences are almost always lab-based classes, and you can’t do those independent study. And yeah I’ve run out of classes because of the fact that I’m ahead in math/science. So it won’t hurt me?

Well, if you’re out of science classes, just explain that somewhere in your app. Hopefully you’re doing other things to challenge yourself.

Two things:

1) Your test scores are fantastic, your GPA isn’t too bad, your ECs are pretty good, your curriculum is outstanding, and you’re a first-generation student, so I would say that your application is in pretty good shape. I would guess that you could make it look even better if you had a chance to supplement it with classes from a community college, but that may be unrealistically time-consuming at this point. Just consider it.

2) I think you’d have an excellent shot at Emory, and I think it has most of the characteristics that you’re looking for (top ten business school, pretty good IR program, reasonably-sized student body, etc.). With that said, you’d probably have a decent shot at any school that you apply to, so for the time being, search for fit over admission likelihood.

A couple of years ago, a CC poster posted a Facebook survey about political opinions on the campuses of various top colleges. Using your criteria of wanting to be in a city, here are colleges ranked in the USNWR Top 20 national universities and how their students compare across the political spectrum. I think it’s accurate to say that nearly all of these have faculties that are liberal and probably wouldn’t be too favorably disposed to someone with a name like NOBAMA.

Thanks for all the feedback, I should also mention that I’m taking a class at the university here, I didn’t mention it because I’m not sure how major that is…
So you guys think I have a shot at getting into…Boston College? BU? Georgetown? Berkeley? Johns Hopkins? Columbia? Stanford? (these are all schools I’d possibly be interested in, the later ones I highly doubt I’d get in…)

Hi everybody, I’m also looking for colleges in IR but I would also like to have a minor in finance. Any suggestions on where to begin will be appreciated,
