I have just completed my freshman year at NYU. I currently have a 3.8 GPA and am pursuing a major in Economics (with a Policy concentration, or would switching to a Theory be better for LS? At NYU, an Econ major must choose either Policy or Theory). I plan on graduating in 3.5 years due to AP credits, but am toying with a Business Studies minor that could push it up to the full 4 years.

I held two internships this year. In the fall I was doing marketing with a website, and in the spring I worked in fundraising at the state attorney general's Financial District office. I was invited to continue the latter in the fall, but it is unpaid, so if I find a paid internship, I'll most likely take that instead.

At this point in my college career, my biggest pitfall is that I have not particularly been involved on-campus. This year I plan on joining a club or two, even though it could be awkward to join as a sophomore.

Regarding the LSAT, I haven't started studying yet since it is somewhat early, but I took a glance at some questions online and I'll say one thing. The logic games scare the crap out of me.

Anyways, I'd just like some feedback/guidance as to what I should do for the next 2.5/3 years. I feel like building work experience/internships is more important than on-campus activities, but I do still think I should be more involved on-campus this year.

Lastly, does anyone have suggestions for law schools that would be a match for a 3.5-3.8 GPA, and a 165-170 LSAT? (the score range that I hope to attain.) As of now, UChicago and UPenn are my dream law schools, but I know I'm still too young to know what I want out of life.

As we tell everyone…until you have an actual LSAT score, it’s just plain silly to try to figure out where you should apply. Moreover, the difference between a 165 and a 170 in terms of where you can get in is substantial.

If you still want to do it, go to [LSAC.org Homepage](http://www.lsac.org). , look at the guide to LSs and search by GPA and LSAT. Even better, talk to the pre-law adviser at NYU. Most schools have grids which show where their grads got in broken down by LSAT/GPA .

The one thing you don’t seem to have focused on is LORs. Try to get to know 2 profs well so you can get good LORs.

Yeah, I know I need to get to know a couple of profs pretty well, but I really didn’t care much about it this year since it was all core requirements, for the most part. I think that once I start specializing in my major more, I’ll get to know those profs or whatever…

When would you suggest taking the LSAT for the first time? Are there any T25 schools that don’t weigh the LSAT too heavily? I mean, I may sound stupid but I’m going to study really hard and take it multiple times if need be, but standardized tests have never been my strong point. Thanks for the feedback!

Well, take the LSATs only once. So study enough so that you feel prepared to the best you can that one time. Whenever that point is, that is when you should take it.

Your 1350 projects out to (approximately) a mid-160s score. That will make it hard for Penn or Chicago, but not impossible. Plus, it’ll make you an excellent candidate for some other, also-excellent schools.

I wouldn’t worry too much. Focus on the grades for now; become a voracious reader and writer. I’d take a policy concentration, but this doesn’t matter too too much.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Though I’ve heard the Theory track is more rigorous, I am planning on concentrating in Policy, b/c I think it will blend well with my interest in politics.

and yeah, I’ve come to realize that LS apps are much less holistic than apps for undergrad.

and unfortunately, this does not really play out in my favor because I, like the rest of my family, am not a naturally-gifted standardized test taker. I had to study for hours on end to boost my SAT score from a mediocre 1920 to a somewhat less mediocre 2040.

btw bluedevilmike… how’d you know I got a 1350?
