Thinking of major in Accounting, Actuarial Science or Math.
I think we have a pretty good list of schools in mind, but wanted to see what CC has to suggest.
Stats 3.75UW, 1390 SAT. Looking for schools within driving distance of NYC (i.e 6-7 hours max), smaller (<5,000 students), and not in a city. Happy to chase merit over brand name because $60k/yr is not realistic.
Look at the schools in the above link. Keep in mind each schools curriculum might be slightly different. Some will end with you taking 3 tests of the 9 needed and some up to 5 which is rare. That means also your starting pay point. I am taking about Actuarial Sciences. My son was looking at it before deciding on Industrial engineering.
As an aside. Actuarial Science professionals have a pretty good life. Nice pay, low stress. Good hours. But look into AI overtaking all these fields. It doesn’t concern me yet but it’s something to at least look into.
I don’t think these all have actuarial science (the list above will help you with that) but some smaller/mid-sized schools in driving distance of NYC but not in a city where you might chase some merit aid you might consider Fairfield, Siena (has actuarial science), Marist, Quinnippiac. If you are in NY State and money is a factor you should seriously consider SUNY schools – SUNY Genesco, SUNY and New Paltz are a couple of good mid-sized college options.
Bryant hits the mark on all of these but is expensive. Those stats might yield some good merit, though. I have a freshman there in the business program and the resources and opportunities they provide students are really superb.
