St. Mary’s College of Maryland isn’t private, but it is the public honors college for Maryland and has an LAC (almost summer camp feel). Dickinson (if you can get in). There is definitely a party faction at Dickinson, although there are also a bunch of serious students as well.

@intparent thanks!

I’ve been known to bend an elbow at all three schools–when I still had teeth, of course. I-) Lafayette has had strong fraternities that still dominate the social scene, much to the admin’s chagrin. American has no fraternities that I’m aware of, but these wealthy kids are not wallflowers.

@jkeil911 any other fun schools in MA besides BU? Holy Cross, Assumption, Stonehill?

now you’re getting further afield from my party days, OP. I can’t help you with those. Some Catholic schools have good party scenes and some are more intolerant of the trouble that comes with parties.

I would look at schools in DC, Philly and Boston. Catholic U in DC has a great social scene and improving academics.

@jkeil911 well, thanks for the help I really appreciate all this.

JMU and VTech are both VA public schools.

Outside of the Northeast you may want to consider the University of Denver, Christopher Newport University (smaller public in VA with almost all small classes and a laid back lifestyle), Elon, University of Puget Sound, Rollins College (hot weather), Texas Christian U (hot weather) and Wake Forest (big reach)

VT isn’t anything at all like a small private LAC. It is a large (23,000 undergrads, 31,000 total students) public research university. Perhaps @jkeil911 was thinking of W&M? (W&M is also a public research university, but much smaller and somewhat like a LAC).

OP I know some recent Lafayette grads who had a LOT of fun there. Probably too much.

@ormdad good to know, still feel like its a little too isolated and small.

Thanks for the help all. After reading over the comments here and on other forums and sites I have decided to go with-

Dickinson College

Providence College

James Madison University

Lafayette College

Fordham University

University of Denver

Fairfield University

St. Joseph’s University

American University

College of the Holy Cross

Lafayette has a big party scene. The administration has strict policies on alcohol (as they all should), but students find ways to get around it.

LOL!, you probably heard that at Lehigh, their rival school. :-)
