Hi im a sophomore and im a bit nervous on volunteer hours currently. I have about 24 hours in and im wondering how much I should do for an ivy league school. Im 4.0 gpa weighted (taking 5 ap classes next year) I do key club and row. Sorry for grammar using my pho.e

Zero. Top schools don’t care if you do any at all. They want outstanding applicants. A line on your resume won’t suffice. You could do zero but be outstanding in something else and get their attention. You could do 5,000 but do nothing else impressive and you’ll be totally bypassed.

I suggest you do some deeper research on what makes a competitive applicant to selective colleges.

Exactly right.

In many cases, really strong applicants’ extracurricular activities tell a story about who they are. Are they artists? Athletes? Do-gooders? Outdoorsy? Political? Entrepreneurial? In most cases, these activities show that strong applicants have taken on greater responsibilities or achieved some kind of personal development year by year.

A person could do those things in any number of ways, including volunteering. But volunteering just for the sake of tallying hours does none of those things.
