do civil engineers wear suits to work everyday?

Typically not.

I'm currently wearing flip-flops acquired for a buck ninety-nine at Walgreen's, a jersey-knit skirt from Old Navy, and a casual linen button-down shirt that I ganked from my mom's closet a few months ago, and I'm probably dressier than anyone else here right now.

Actually, I'm not even wearing the flip-flops right now.

In the two offices I've worked at, one had a dress code of business casual... The guys typically wore polos and khakis... And at the office I'm working at now, it's even a little more casual, with polos and jeans, or even t-shirts, taking precedence. There's a fair amount of fieldwork involved in some of the civil engineering disciplines, and so you might often find yourself in a company polo, jeans, and work boots, out tromping around a construction site. There are the occasional days where you need a suit and tie to meet with a client or give a presentation, but those aren't all that often.

There are a couple of places in larger cities at larger firms that are like... in downtown New York, that you might wear dress pants and a button-down oxford to work every day, but that's about the extent of it. We're big on casual Fridays, too.
