<p>Just curiosity, but why is it that people say Berkeley has grade deflation, but they actually have the highest average GPA out of all the UCs? And I mean, if 4% of Berkeley is like, perfect, what’s up with that?</p>

<p>It’s only some particular majors that seriously deflate grades. Not all of them.</p>
<p>In addition to above, I’m not sure if Campusbuddy is a accurate measure of average GPA of majors/universities.</p>
<p>If somebody take 25 letter-graded 4-unit classes before you graduate, you would need 22 A’s and only 3 A-s to get the minimum for a 3.96. Avoiding getting more than two or three A-s in some many classes is very difficult even in easy majors where you can be the smartest person in them, so it’s not that surprising.</p>
<p>Liquidus. CampusBuddy gets all their grades from the university. They don’t take self-reported grades. They don’t have averages for majors, but they do have averages for departments.</p>
