I was planning my schedule and realized that I would need to take both summer classes and after school classes 2nd semester in order to have a full set of 4 language credits and good amount of APs. Will taking additional classes outside of school be seen in a positive light by college adcoms?
Going the extra mile is normally highly valued (how would it not?). You’ve got to consider the cost to benefit ratio however. Would those classes prevent you from other meaningful ECs? Depending on the sorts of colleges you intend to target, being a grade robot may not be that attractive overall. Getting great grades in a tough curriculum – while having meaningful involvement with those around you is better.
It is very good to have reached the 4th level of Language.
How many APs is a good amount to you?
It seems a bit over the top to have to take summer and after school classes.
What prevents you from doing it during regular school?
@T26E4 I intend on targeting top schools (HYPSM). As far as I know, taking summer and after school classes in the spring (I have marching band in the fall) will not prevent me from doing all the ECs that I am currently involved in. From what I understand, I will only have to physically attend classes for the first few days and the rest can be done at home on my own time as the classes are offered online.
@bopper The main reason why I am considering these additional classes is that I wish to remain in band, have a competitive amount of APs, and still get 4 language credits. I unfortunately messed up a bit freshman year and ended up taking some useless standard level classes that I did not enjoy or have much use for. My APs that I have planned are: AP World History (Took this year), AP Physics 1 + 2 (Next year), AP US History (Next year), AP Calculus AB + BC (Following year), AP Literature and Composition (Follo
I’d go for it/I am going for it. My school has a pretty limited AP curriculum, so I ended up taking a summer course for Precalc(sophomore year) at a local community college and Ap Calc (this year/ only junior in the class/ all juniors taking Precalc or Precalc honors). I applied to summer programs that offer Calc 2, etc. but it looks kinda weird to have no math for the year so like you I plan on taking a math the first and or second semester at night(either Calc 3 or beyond).
