Summer Art Programs with merit aid? (or just not expensive?)

I’ve started researching film programs to do next summer, however my parents absolutely refuse to pay much for any of them. Has anyone here done or know of any film/arts programs with merit aid, or know of any outside scholarships? We won’t qualify for financial aid. Or does anyone know of any reasonably priced programs? We live in nyc, and are moving to the bay area (ca) next summer. I’ll be a rising sophomore btw. Heres what I’m thinking so far:

CSSSA/ NYSSSA: Csssa especially sounds amazing, and with in state tuition those are both affordable for us, and sound like great experiences. However, I’m not sure I’ll qualify in state, especially for csssa.

UArts: They seem like a pretty cool film program, especially being in philly which isn’t too far from home. However, I’m not sure how much they consider financial need for the scholarships.

School of Visual Arts: This seems like a great program, and I’ve seen great reviews. I’ll be able to stay with friends in the city too, so that means I won’t have to pay residential costs. They have merit aid, and it’d be nice to stay in the city before moving :frowning:

North Carolina School of Arts: I’ve seen good reviews, and the programs seems fun. Although they have absolutely no aid, the tuition isn’t as crazy as some other schools, and I could look at outside scholarships.

So yeah, this is my small bit of research, anyone have suggestions or reviews?
Thanks

Also, I’m looking at the International Film Academy thing at Sarah Lawrence. I know its pretty expensive, but I’m thinking I could maybe find an outside scholarship for that too? The program looks incredible.

Please take a look at the Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University as they also have a film program and I think is reasonable for 4 weeks.

I did a summer program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn this past summer which is expensive but does offer a merit scholarship based on your portfolio. I have no experience with the Film program but I really enjoyed the Art and Design Discovery major.

The only issue is that rising sophomores can’t attend Pratt precollege, only rising juniors and seniors. If you don’t mind waiting another year you could still go, but it might just be better to chose another program — having not gone to any of the other programs on your list I can’t say whether or not it’s worth the wait.

If you have any questions about Pratt precollege feel free to ask me! I’m sure any summer art program will be an amazing experience, I know mine was.

SVA has a summer program and I believe there are some merit scholarships available. Their film program is top-notch from what I’ve been told.

@acrylicpaint yeah!! The Pratt program looked really cool, and I’d be willing to wait another year for it  Could you tell me more about it? Its especially good cause I can stay with friends in nyc. thanks!!

@veehee do you know anyone who went to the sva program on these forums who i could message? thanks!!

@akddka I don’t believe they are on CC forums. But I’m sure there must be some who could give you more info on the school if you search around the site.

My daughter is going to attend this workshop next Summer. You need your own room and board, but the program itself is not crazy expensive for drawing + painting workshops.

I realize this post is a year old, but if you are looking into summer programs this year, check out RISD’s pre college summer program – their scholarship application deadline is March 10th. I Also had a student who attended Pratt’s summer program and he loved it. He ended up going to Pratt for his undergraduate degree.

If you are interested in getting oriented to LA, UCLA has a strong arts and design media arts summer institute -
