Summer Frat Housing for guys??????????

I am looking for summer housing. Is there any frat that's chill and take males?

As of a couple of years ago (I do not have more recent info than that, you would need to ask them), Zeta Psi did (and it is a pretty chill place). I suspect that others do too - there are two dozen after all - but you'd need to ask them. I would be somewhat surprised if tEp didn't take both men and women as summer boarders, if they take summer boarders at all...Olo would probably know.

Just log onto the MIT website and google "summer housing". This will bring you to the housing website, where you'll find all sorts of options, including some fraternities.

So I should probably just keep quiet, because I don't think I know what I'm talking about here, but I thought nearly ALL frats took male summer boarders?

They have to pay the bills for the whole house, so financially, they have to fill as many rooms as possible. Actual frat brothers get first choice, obviously, and then they try to fill the rest of the rooms with boarders of whatever gender they can find....

Am I totally wrong on this?

Some fraternities will only take women as summer boarders (I know of one that used to only take non-MIT women, but I hear that their policies have changed and they now take summer boarders regardless of school or gender). I do not know how common it is.

I agree LauraN's assessment, but I think jessiehl is also correct in that there is occasionally some anti-male bias in summer housing (intentional or otherwise).

Though I would add that I think non-affiliated males in general consider fraternities for summer housing less than females do, so the number of interested males is smaller anyway. In general, it's less common to find non-Greek guys in fraternity houses, but it does happen. (My house had at least one last year.)

i contacted a few frats, some of them definitely don't take male.
i actually go to the school down the street from mit, the one with all the final clubs that don't even let people in on a regular weekend.

so im still looking for summer housing, please help.

I would invite you to my house, but we're full for the summer.

Drop me a PM and let me know what houses you've already talked to - we can talk more that way.

(P.S. One reason for the anti-male bias is because a lot of the house's own brothers stay there for the summer, and I think the general consensus is that a roughly even ratio of guys and girls is desirable. It's not pretty, necessarily, but it happens.)
