My daughter has a summer internship at an organization near Beverly Grove and is considering living near USC during the summer and taking mass transit to her job. She is a freshman in college and would like to live with other students. She is currently looking at The Lorenzo. Does anyone have advice on summer housing?
Lorenzo is lovely, but it is pretty far from campus and there is nothing around it in terms of grabbing food by yourself at night kind of thing. If she has a group of friends there that could be ok, but if on her own, I wouldn’t want my daughter having to get around from there, mainly because of the distance to things and because there are so many less students around in the summer. I would be more inclined to stay at Gateway which is literally across the street from the entrance of campus and close to tons of eateries if she wants to be near USC and downtown action. Does she have friends around USC during the summer? The Beverly Grove is so much closer to UCLA, is she considering that area as well? Pricey (all LA is) but like USC, there should be an abundance of sublets at that time.
Check out the USC sublease Facebook page. There are many options closer to campus other than Lorenzo, which isn’t really in a safe area, especially during the summer when less students are around.
A good guideline is to look in the area bounded by Vermont (W), Jefferson (S), Adams (N), and Figueroa (E).
^^ agreed. The USC Sub/Leases group is great and you can find housing much cheaper than the Lorenzo. I subleased at the Shrine Apartments last summer, which was very conveniently located right next to CVS and 5 minutes from the metro, but I know Gateway and several apartments in the NUPC area also have subleases available.
