<p>Staying in C'ville over the summer for classes, research? Coming back early? This is the thread. </p>
<p>I'm not staying in C'ville this summer, but I did this last year, so I thought I'd make a thread. Will be writing an actual list soon.</p>
<p>I remember taking 20 credits the summer between 3rd and 4th year (I was trying to make up for a semester I had taken off between transferring, and I also complete the pre-reqs for my second major).</p>
<p>Bagel Days on the Lawn were awesome, since I was usually in too much of a rush in the morning to make my own breakfast.</p>
<p>Unless you are going to Final Ceremonies, avoid that weekend in May to make any plans in-town…it’s going to be crazzyyyyyy busy everywhere. 4th of July can also be really hectic.</p>
<p>If you are taking courses in 3rd session, particularly any lower level/survey courses…beware of incoming First-years who are in the college-transition program. They can be kind of annoying if you are serious or plan on getting any real work done. ;)</p>
<p>can possible students participate in summer programs? I know UVA has the summer course type thing but I’m a junior and know UVA is my 1st choice. Think they would allow me to come for the summer and take some courses?</p>

<p>Wow hazelorb amazing find. However, do you think if I went to this program I would just look like I wasted my summer or do you think if I got an A in the class the admissions counclers would view my summer program very positively. I love UVA and would love to spend the summer there but would this be a good use of my summer (UVA is my #1 choice by far…)</p>
<p>I think this has been asked in the past before, too lazy to search, but my answer is that my brother did a similar program at Duke, his #1, and got an A and an A+ in his classes, and still got waitlisted, so I’m not sure how much it actually helps.</p>
<p>hazelorb was it as selective as the program at UVA? The program at UVA is actually combined with the college students so it’s not a easy highschool type class. I’m really thinking about doing this. Would anyone know of any cheap 2 bedroom apartments very near to the campus. My parents said they would get me an apartment for the time I stay. But another question… Does anyone know if I can use the food plan while I’m there? I know I can’t stay in the dorms but can I atleast eat on campus. I’m really looking into doing this program.</p>
<p>the buffets in C’ville (seriously we have more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the nation, including NYC) are cheaper than the dining halls. Milan == delicious Indian buffet for only around $8. </p>

<p>The Duke program was with college students. He got an A+ in a college class and he got waitlisted. I mean, what more did they want from him. Goodness. Maybe Duke is just out of control. There are plenty of apartments, just look on charlottesville craigslist. I second just going to the Corner or if you are bringing a car then going out to eat or shopping at a grocery store for things like bread for sandwiches (very cheap alternative).</p>
<p>UVAor Bust, D did two sessions of the UVA Young Writers Workshops while in HS. Its not for credit but it was a great program for HS students held on grounds and taught by several of the faculty from the school as well as visiting faculty. Many of the students came from different states. She did get into W&M ED so I don’t think it was a waste of time. She learned a lot about campus while attending the sessions.</p>
<p>Hmmm, alright I’m definently going to do this program. My parents are putting up the cash for me to get an apartment/eat out for 1month. They know how important getting into this school is to me and they’ll basically do anything to help me get in. If anyone has any other advice about this subject please post it.</p>
<p>I might be able to sublet the bedroom in my apartment for a month. It is in Grand Marc near the corner, where the restaurants are, and an easy walk to grounds.</p>
