Is anyone else attending S.T.A.T.E. this Summer?
My daughter is attending this summer.
YAY! I’ll see if I can send you a PM, but I haven’t been on here long, so probably not.
Hi there @owensfolks and @TwoBusyMom! Would either of you feel comfortable sharing your student’s experience at S.T.A.T.E. this summer? It’s a program I’m looking into for my D for next summer, and I was wondering what your/their thoughts were. Thanks in advance if you’re willing to share!
(My D and) I would HIGHLY recommend it. Days jam packed with masters classes in all 3 disciplines. Opportunities to have additional privates above and beyond the program; and the option to have prescreens filmed, and headshots taken. For my D it was also a great opportunity to check out a University environment, as she had done an intensive at a Conservatory last Summer. Also, perfect balance of time getting to know the instructors and experts (learning what an MT program would look like), and time with the current students (all so impressive), and benefiting from their insight.
Thanks so much for the info, @owensfolks!
Sorry, I just now saw this, but in case you are now at the point of trying to decide which summer program to commit to, I second everything @owensfolks said. My D had a great experience. Everything about the program was well-done. Do expect it to be a busy time-- it took my D a couple of days to get used to the schedule, but after that she loved it.
HAs anyone heard about this year yet
(like acceptances)
Nope…anxiously waiting here too!
I see a couple of big recommendations of this program above. I am wondering, can anyone compare this summer program to the one at OCU? What differences exist between the two programs? Trying to figure out which one is a better fit for my son, any thoughts would be appreciated!
Hi @junior72, and congratulations to your son!
My D went to the 3 week OCU HS summer intensive last year and loved it so much she applied and was accepted to go again this year. She also applied to Penn State because the two camps don’t conflict and she was interested in attending both, but unfortunately she got a no from Penn State. She is only a freshman though, so she is determined to try again next year.
You might have trouble finding people who have attended both OCU and Penn State’s summer programs because last year was the first year that Penn State had a summer program. On paper at least, a big difference is that OCU is 3 weeks long vs 2 weeks for Penn State, and OCU stages a full musical (Urinetown this year) but Penn State I believe has a showcase type performance for parents at the end. Neither of these is better or worse than the other…just different. There are lots of descriptions on the OCU board about the 3 week session, so you could definitely find out more info on OCU specifically there. And maybe @owensfolks and/or @TwoBusyMom could answer any specific questions you might have about Penn State’s program.
Again, congratulations to your son!
