Summer job Palo Alto

Thanks GGDad!

BES, ha, my husband made the same point about driving to CA and figuring it out based on our youthful adventures. Unfortunately, times have changed and I just don’t feel comfortable with the notion of him driving cross country without a plan. Actually, just driving cross country freaks me out. Reality check, friends, am I over reacting? He is 21 and a responsible kid but wow, 5+ days each way? I have work constraints and can’t help with the driving.

Blackeyedsusan,
If your son’s internship is on bridge parkway, it should be bike riding distance from the Belmont cal train station. It can be confusing because, while technically it’s redwood city, the area is really known as redwood shores which is adjacent to the town of Belmont. The trains enable one to transport a bike.

However, in terms of a college student having any kind of social life, I wouldn’t really advise living in RWS…palo alto, if something can be found within his budget, would Be much more fun, college town, etc. Taking the train from palo alto to Belmont is easy–just a 12 minute ride from the university ave palo alto station. I would not advise having your son live in east palo alto.

I have no idea if they provide summer housing for non students but you might check Menlo College, in Atherton just south of Redwood Shores and near Caltrain, or College of Notre Dame in Belmont. Notre Dame might be tricky if he’s dependent on public vacation but would be a doable bike ride.
