I was recently admitted and part of my work-study plan entails summer savings. I was wondering, are there any opportunities to work at Princeton over the summer or take courses, etc. as a rising freshman?
Thanks!

It’s worth investigating. I can imagine some students staying on campus for research jobs, etc. But like other Ivies, good help is hard to find. With a mass exodus of undergrads over the summer, I bet if you’re creative enough, you could find a job at a lab on campus. Probably could get a cheap sublet for the summer months too.
How adventurous are you? Ready to head off to PTon in June? Go for it. Start emailing people now. I think it’s a great idea.
Thanks! I’ll definitely ask around and see what I can find!
There are also tons of high end retail shops across the street. You could get acclimated without necessarily working on campus. Do you have a concept for a major?
Probably engineering, but I don’t have too much experience in the field.
Some incoming freshmen are offered the opportunity to do a course at Princeton the summer prior to starting their first year. Unfortunately I forget the name of the program but it wasn’t one you could apply for - you had to be offered a spot. I believe most NCAA athletes are invited to do it but I am not sure who else is.
In terms of work opportunities, I do know that they hire a lot of students for the reunions/grad week (and weeks leading up to it). Reunions are an enormous production on campus and take place right around the end of May/beginning of June. I believe there is other general labor over the summer months and I heard that there is housing available for those working on campus. You also might apply to work with a prof on research over the summer months although those jobs might go to students who already know those profs. Some Princeton students also work with some of the summer outreach programs for underprivileged students in Trenton and other low income areas…they also have access to on-campus housing.
I think the best opportunities will be available to you after your freshman year but it’s definitely worth applying and see what comes! FYI with the work component of your financial aid, if you cannot meet the whole obligation, Princeton will make an interest free loan (until 6 months after graduation) available for the difference.

Princeton can also offer additional grants if you are unable to meet your summer savings requirement
