Congrats, @RachelParent!
My D was accepted to the Flute Intensive week at Interlochen and to this year’s EMF, which seems to be the longest summer music program offered in-person right now, at least on the East coast. Both programs (I & EMF) overlap with our local Governor’s Honors Program in GA. A lot of unknown still with some of the festivals/GHP possibly switching to online or hybrid format (except for EMF, it will be in-person or cancelled). Acceptance deadlines approaching on April 1st, 2nd and 5th.
Any GA parents here? Trying to decide if D should take advantage of GHP’21, since it is limited to rising seniors and juniors or go to Interlochen + EMF (they are scheduled one after another).
BUTI decisions are out this week.
Please share which summer programs your kids are choosing and why. Thank you for this thread!
BUTI is online, yes? This has been so challenging. My d went with programs that are more likely to create a “bubble” and less likely to cancel. Total crap shoot. she decided against Bowdoin b/c they just haven’t decided yet. I think Interlochen is a very safe bet since they have operated all year.
We decided to stick to online again this year since it felt a little dicey. S’22 is doing CMU pre college vocal performance as well as a totally different topic (sports journalism) online program to keep the summer, um, interesting!
my S22 is selected for interlochen, BUTI and killington. Waitlisted for Domaine-Forget. We decided to go for Interlochen because it is in person. BuTI decided to go online, and so is Killington.
I’m heading to Tanglewood Music Festival this summer after not getting a chance to go in-person last year. Not the BUTI program but the one for college students.
D23 is accepted into BUTI’s 2 week Flute intensive. She is waitlisted for their
3 week Young Artists Instrumental program. They also offered a scholarship.
So we have made a very very last minute decision to try and get my S24 flute into something this summer, Interlochen looked promising but I was just told they are not taking any more flutes. Does anyone have any experience with the Philadelphia International Music Festival? Unclear if it is a real program or not
My DS21 went to PIMF one summer when he was in middle school and had a blast! He particularly liked the Theory and Masterclasses they had. Instructors come from the Philadelphia Symphony and the camp is held on the campus of Bryn Mawr.
It’s a nice mix of music and fun — although my DS21 was pretty stoked at the “24 hours of practice” Saturday (they let the kids practice one Saturday as long as they wanted … My DS still talks about it. He also made some great friends that he is still in touch with today. They had a good number of international students.
Hi! I was accepted to Interlochen for high school piano today. I attended BUTI’s Young Artist’s Piano Program in 2018 and 2019, and I was very sad to see they weren’t offering in-person programs this year. I was wondering how the experience at Interlochen compares? From what I’ve heard, it’s a little more strict and structured than BUTI. I’m waiting on a few more non-music program decisions, but I’d love to hear about any experiences at Interlochen! I’m very drawn to the fact that it’s in-person, but I’m also a little hesitant because the tuition, even with a scholarship, is quite expensive.
Thank you so much for the advice, he is signed up for 1 weeks, looks like they are almost full for woodwinds and it will be very covid conscious and about half the usual size. Anything for live music outside of my house!!
