Hello.

I have just started my second semester for my junior year of high school. I recently received a letter in the mail from the NSLC (National Student Leadership Conference) stating that I was selected to represent my high school at this conference. It sounded interesting at first, with 14 different camps to choose from and all on the east coast, a place I've never been to. However, I realized that the average cost to attend the program was $2000. It is possible to get a scholarship that would cut that amount in half. However, you would need to pay a $350 fee just to apply. The point is, the camp sounds very interesting, but is also very expensive.

My question to you is: Are there any other summer opportunities out there for high school juniors that are like this but cost a lot less (preferably in Washington State)? The program at NSLC that peaked my interest was the "Inteligence and National Security" camp since I'm very interested in attending the Naval Academy or obtaining a NROTC scholarship because I love the idea of becoming an Officer in the Navy. So, are there any opprotunites out there to go and listen to a high ranking Naval Officer? I'm also really looking for opportunities that would relate to engineering and science. I've applied for NASS and Boys State and am waiting for my results.

Any suggestions?
