I am currently a second semester sophomore and I was originally on the premed path.
with my other core requirement classes, I have a cum. GPA of a 3.1 and a sGPA of ~2.7.

This semester I decided to take a break from orgo/premed classes and instead have taken economics classes. I have found an interest - and I am seriously debating whether or not to declare econ as my major and just buckle down on the rest of the premed classes...

But the problem is, because I am not sure of my career path at this point, I am not sure what to do during the summer.
I have the opportunity to:
1) Shadow doctors through family connections
2) Find a business related internship
3) Work at the same place I worked the last couple of years / find time to study.

If I decide to not do research/hospital/science related summer work, how negatively will this impact me in the long run? I'm just really not sure what I would like to do...
Just how important is this sophomore summer?
Oh and grade-wise, I am sure that I can pull it up. I'm ashamed but will admit that Freshman year first semester was a mess. Second sem. fresh year and first sem. sophomore year have been solid 3.8's so...It's safe to assume I just destroyed my GPA upon entering college haha
