Summer Programs 2008

D is going to Sarasota, still waiting to hear about later summer programs.

S1 was accepted at BUTI (although I'm telling you first, he hasn't come home yet today!)

S2 will be at Strings International

D's companion will be at Spoleto USA

DS just heard about his acceptance into the BUTI Vocal Program for Young Artists. Yay!!!!!! He is very excited.

D, too, will be going to BUTI -- Young Artists Orchestra.

the Hawaii performing arts festival is a great program you have either a 10 day seminar, or a 21 day seminar. I know clarinet students get to study with Yehuda Gilad, and then for vocal performance majors there are a plethora of great teachers. Juliana gondek of UCLA, Robin Buck of UCI, Kurt Ollman, Val Underwood, Jennifer McGregor, etc.

Just found out that I got into Aspen! They had 70 applicants for Albert Laszlo's studio (the one I tried out for), and he took 9 people. I'm very honored to be accepted. My parents are letting me go too, even though the price is high. The deal is that I have to work for my Dad's lawfirm for the rest of the summer, but that'll be totally worth it to go to Aspen!

Still waiting for my NSO/KC fellowship letter to come (it arrived at my address in Chicago and my friend mailed it to me in NY). If I get into that, I won't go to Aspen, but if I don't, Aspen it is!!

Congratulations, Cosmos!!!

congrats, Cosmos, that is wonderful!

Congrats Cosmos,
So long Yellow Barn, hello Aspen-for now...

All you senior parents thinking once S or D makes it into college your roller-coaster ride is over, take note-it is just a preview of summers to come!

Has anyone attended the two week workshops at Tanglewood? We are looking into the flute workshop, but any imput about any of the workshops would be great. Also, did you do any of the young artists program after the workshops?

Oh...and congrats Cosmos!!

I attended the two-week bass workshop at tanglewood for 4 years and the orchestra for 2 years. i can answer questions about either program -- i don't know much about the other workshops, but i do know what the schedules were basically like during the two-week programs.

Cosmos congratulations

What session are you going to? I'll look for a girl bass player. I'm going for 2 weeks...

Vieux...I'm confused. Are you going to Aspen for two weeks? I thought that was where Cosmos said she was going.

Yes, Cosmos said she is going. There are 2 sessions for aspen. I asked her what session she is going to. I will also be going, because my teacher wants me to go study with someone there, since he won't be available for part of the summer (I didn't want to do a full session, and I won't be doing any orchestra).

My daughter just got an email that she was accepted to Charles Castlesman's Quartet Program! She is thrilled and I am thrilled for her.

bluepearl - congrats, that's really cool!

Vieuxtemps - I'm going for the entire summer. Hope to see you there !

Cosmos, Congratulations on Aspen! You should definitely go! The NSO program does not compare, IMHO.

Yeah I'm sure you're right. It might be hard to convince my parents though because the NSO program is free!

It's not worth the difference! Aspen is world-famous....talk them into it.

Haha ok I will do my best

just bring your humidifier... don't want any cracks
