Yes, my son went there for classical piano for one year, and jazz piano for two years. It's a very nice, wooded setting and the instruction is very good.

Great! I think I could make the $$$ part work...and if there is scholarship $$, my son would work his mouthpiece off to get in on that. I plan to contact them. Thanks so much for the tip go5878.

Thanks to Deb922 for the input also.. it means a lot.

One more tip, and the only downside to the place.

The food is TERRIBLE. So pack lot's of snacks in the suitcase/trunk.

Anyone here have experience w/ Cazadera(sp?) camp in NoCal? I went to Interlochen for 8 years but my cousin who is 6th grade is interested in percussion and has been told about this camp. Any info would be most appreciated.

Does anyone have the link for New York State Music Camp ? My son is a Junior ( we never could afford camps for my kids so they got their camping experience by working at them ) , plays double bass with his school orchestra - as well as studies electric bass for many years ( and som epiano as a child ) . Comtemplating Music Education for his degree . Is Eastman Camp a good place for him to get his feet wet with music as a degree in college ? My son has never had to deal with competition of being with /living with other music majors .

How about Shenandoah Performs? http://www.su.edu/shenandoahperforms/yad.asp
Does anyone have any information or experience about this camp?
Thank you.

motherofperl---how did you find out about the Shenandoah program? The web site looks interesting.

Application requires an audition and is very competitive. This is popular due to the cost: $1500/4 weeks. Admission to the Eastman camp is less competitive. The Eastman experience is a good introduction to conservatory life but may not reflect a more typical music education program.

Momnipotent asked: motherofperl---how did you find out about the Shenandoah program?

My daughter's violin teacher (who plays with a major symphony) suggested it, but she doesn't personally have any students who have attended. She has heard about it from other symphony members. I'm trying to find someone who has actually been there to get a first-hand account.

From looking at the web page --did it say that last year was the first year for the camp??

It appears that 2005 was the second season for the Shenandoah Performs program. All of the information on their website is from last year, nothing updated yet for this year.

I found this one as well .

Does Anyone know of any good music programs that I might be able to attend this summer (summer before my senior year)? I am really hoping to gain perspective on what college life is like. I would also like to get exposure to top education.

If you havent looked at the summer MT thread, you should. Some of these programs have music programs as well. For example, Interlochen has a great instrumental program (though that is a camp setting not a college setting). CMU's pre-college has a music component. I bet lots of the others do as well.

If you're looking for classical voice on a college campus, look at Oberlin (check their website).

NCSA also has a great summer program for classical vocals!

You didn't say you only wanted college campuses so you might also look into Interlochen Arts Camp http://www.interlochen.org/camp/

New England Music Camp. You can't go wrong!
